Mammography
Screening Mammography
Our technicians are not only there to complete your mammogram, they will help make the experience for you as comfortable as possible. Two views will be taken of each breast. If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, alert the technologist before the exam so she can take appropriate precautions. Total exam time is approximately 15 minutes.
Preparation - On the day of your mammogram, wear a two-piece outfit and avoid using deodorant if possible. If you are wearing deodorant, you will need to remove it in the dressing room prior to your screening.

FACT: 96% of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer-free after five years!
Diagnostic Mammography
If you are experiencing problems with your breast or have discovered a lump, you will be scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram. In this case, the mammogram is focused on a specific area of your breast. At Providence Breast Health Center, a radiologist will be on hand to make sure that we are capturing appropriate images, and a surgeon will be available to perform other diagnostic procedures if they are necessary.
You can expect to be at the center longer than a screening mammogram due to the additional diagnostic steps and time necessary to read the images.
If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, alert the technician before the exam so she can take appropriate precautions.

Bone Densitometry
A bone density scan is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure Calcium in the spine and hips. This procedure is usually performed to detect osteoporosis, a hollowing of the bones that affects post-menopausal women. Providence Breast Health Center utilizes a widely used bone density bed to perform your scan in the comfort of a cozy, dimly lit room with soft music. These might even be done on the same day as your mammogram as an added convenience.
Preparation - Wear comfortable clothing but refrain from wearing anything with zippers, buttons, or belts made of metal.
